Show Notes:

Happiness Is | The Anita Kerr Singers
Anita Kerr is simply one of the most unfairly underrated figures of the 60's pop music scene. For four decades she has been producing, arranging and performing some of the most wonderful pop, country and inspirational music ever to grave a turntable, tape deck or CD player.
Ms. Kerr has a wonderful official site and I also highly reccomend a visit to Space Age Pop's page devoted to this extraordinary artist.

Small Talk | Claudine Longet
Best known for accidently (or so a jury decided) shooting her lover, professional skier Spider Sabich. Before that tragic event she was probably most famous for being Mrs. Andy Williams. But Claudine recorded some of the finest soft pop the genre has to offer - sweet, sexy and sometimes just a bit silly. Small Talk can be found on The Very Best of Claudine Longet. There's also an excellent compilation Cuddle Up With Claudine which contains the best of her output in the '70's.

Tracy | The Cuff Links
A classic song from the King of bubblegum vocalists. Ron Dante worked minor miracles fronting various conglomerations of session musicians under an ever changing selection of band names - the name may not ring a besll but you sure know his voice. Dante provided the voice for such bands as The Archies, The Ohio Express, the 1910 Fruitgum Factory.

Tracy can be found on the Cuff Links album Tracy + 1 and compilation 25 All-Time Greatest Bubblegum.

RonDante.com has a complete rundown on the sessions that produced Tracy.

Valentine's Day | Ruth
Brit-popper's Ruth released only one album as far as I can tell - 1998's Harrison but it produced this cracker of a tune.

Mystifyingly Glad - Show 1

The first ever Mystifyingly Glad Podcast is now available.

Show One Tracklist :

  • Mr. Dieingly Sad : The Critters
  • Kites Are Fun : The Free Design
  • Sailing : Best of Friends
Sources:
The Critters, a fine singles oriented soft rock group on the Karma Sutra label. Thier CD re-issues seem to be pretty thin on the ground but you can find Mr. Dyeingly Sad on a number of compilations including Lost Hits of the '60's

Kites Are Fun is one of the classic Sunshine Pop songs and The Free Design perhaps the greatest vocalists the genre produced. Find Kites are Fun and 19 other gems on Very Best of Free Design

As for Sailing - I can't find a thing about it on the web. My copy of the song came off a mix disc burned by a friend of a friend so i don't know if the song is super obscure or if the tracklisting mis-identified it. Either way it's a great song.
